This has been one of my most anticipated post besides the births of my babies. Shouting from the roofs… Kaila is FINALLY potty trained. I’m sure you’re giving me the side eye, especially since my Sissy La La is 3 years old and way past the “normal” age range to be potty trained. But this little lady has truly represented her birth sign of Gemini and done everything on her own timing. From walking to talking and now even to potty training.
First, let me tell you how proud of you Mama is Kaila girl. Not only have you mastered potty training in three days with no accidents, you have once again taught your mama an important lesson. That lesson is PATIENCE!
Patience is something that I’m typically very good at but this task of potty training took me to my limits. Frustration, anger, confusion and disappointment are a few words to describe how I was recently feeling. Frustrated that at 3 years old, almost 3.5 Kaila was still in diapers. What was even more frustrating was the fact that I tried literally everything. I tried the reward method, her being naked method, take away a toy method… and nothing worked. I even started to believe there may be a problem. I asked her doctor and he simply replied with, “each child goes at their own pace.” And Lord knows I needed to hear that! So I took our doctors advice and just let Kaila tell me when she was ready. No more stressing from mama, no more yelling or frustration. AND JUST LIKE THAT… she was ready.
She hinted to me by asking to go potty a few times. So I ran with it. I tried the naked method which also worked when I potty trained JJ. I committed to staying home for three days, made Kaila walk around without a diaper and showed her where the potty was with the hopes she would run over and use it when she felt the need. I also asked her literally every 10 minutes if she had to go. And again… JUST LIKE THAT… she is in big girl panties now.
